We were at the Hackney Health and Wellbeing Fayre yesterday and we're excited to hear so many people keen to get cooking and try new dishes or recipes. Food is a direct way to improve our health, the saying goes 'you are what you eat'!
Hackney, as a borough, has some of the greatest inequalities in health and with your help, that's what we are trying to solve. As a Makekitteer you are helping us to do this through every purchase of a recipe kit. 100% of our profits reinvested to subsidise recipe kits to those who could benefit from our service the most. Through giving people the skills and access to fresh, affordable dishes we hope to be building the knowledge of how to cook healthy food and overcoming some of the barriers to a healthier diet.
We are running a cooking class with our recipe kits next week with the Shoreditch Trust for local residents, offering one kit to cook in class and one to take away and build on those skills at home over a 5-week course.
If you work with any families you feel could benefit from this, please put them in touch with me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
