Our Story

We share a vision of society where every adult and child knows how to cook "real" food from scratch.

Our mission is to use recipe kits to help people to improve their cooking skills and to eat well, and in doing so, to lead healthier, happier lives.

Steve and Justine co-founders of Make Kit, a healthy recipe kit business from Hackney, London.

Inspired by the rise of other recipe kit businesses we saw the need for something more affordable that could offer the same benefits of convenience and knowledge sharing but to a wider audience, with more of a focus on learning skills, less packaging, and a priority of people before profit.

We are concerned that the obesity crisis costs the NHS £1million an hour, and that this is the first generation expected to live a shorter life than their parents.

We also feel that people are not doing enough about it.

62% of UK adults are overweight or obese. 1 in 5 children are obese by the time they leave primary school. Many people say that they do not know how to cook or to eat healthily, or struggle to find the time to eat well. More so, everyone that does know how to cook can still learn a thing or two, or help others to do so.

We found that often people have 3 or 4 great dishes that they tend to repeat as they know them, and they know that they work. We set out to uncover the classic, affordable and healthy quick home cooked meals that are out there all around us, make sure they are tasty and nutritious, and to share them through recipe kits so that everybody knows how to cook, better!

Every purchase of a Make Kit gives back to your community. We run free community cooking courses with our recipe kits and subsidise kits to families on low incomes or suffering from diet related illnesses.
